Perfect for those whose joints are no longer capable of strenuous fell walking and for families with small kids who just want to get out into the fresh air and experience one of the most spectacular Windermere views.The path is paved for most of the route. The walk is a steady gentle climb out of the "village of Windermere. There is a pay and display car park by the railway station and Booths supermarket (just off the A591 in the centre of Windermere opposite the Nat West Bank). The beginning of the path to Orrest Head is clearly marked by the above signpost. Orrest Head - introduction to a dream When Wainwright first visited the Lake District back in 1930 he got off the bus from Blackburn and made his way up Orrest Head without even a thought of where he would sleep for the night.He had heard that Orrest Head was a recommended view point of the Lakes and he describes the occasion as an 'introduction to a dream'. A dream that inspired his moving to Cumbria and becoming one of the counties best known authors.
