Cottages in Buttermere and Crummock WaterIf you are looking for a tranquil self catering cottage in the Lake District then choosing the Buttermere and Crummock Water Valley may be just what you have been searching for.As you know Discover Cumbria is rather selective about its choice of cottages. With this in mind, and the size of Buttermere we don't have many cottages to bring you in this area, but and its a big BUT - we think you'll like the ones we do have.
Rose Cottage - Loweswater
Rose Cottage was once the village school before being the local blacksmiths home, but now available to rent by you with walks and cycling literally from the door step. The well known Kirkstile Inn within a few minutes walk where booking is highly recommended.

Newlands ValleyThere is just something so very beautiful about The Newlands Valley. Taking you as it does through pretty rural Cumbria. With spectacular walking opportunities and spots to picnic. Just a short drive away you have Honister Slate Mine with its Via Ferrata, for those in need of an adrenalin rush and for those like me who love to lap up the splendid tranquility where better than by Buttermere and Crummock Water. Have I persuaded you that this is a great place for a holiday yet?Skelgill FarmhouseHow could we not include this farmhouse which inspired Beatrix Potter's The Tale of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle?
This was the actual home of Lucie Carr a friend of the Potter family who inspired the fictional character Lucie in the same book.
200 year old Skelgill Farm has wonderful views across the Newlands Valley and is just a 10/15 minute walk from the newly refurbished Swinside Inn which prides itself on being child and dog friendly with a great pub menu too. High Snab Farm
Amazing views, this is the place to come and get away from it all. Wake up soak in the views and collect your own eggs for breakfast. If the weather is great there can be no better place to BBQ and , as the Lake District can be famous for, it a little damp then the wood-burning stove is the place to snuggle up.

Stair HouseStair House is the type of property that you pass all the time whilst journeying through Cumbria. Here is your chance to step through the door and enjoy typical Cumbrian living. With Stair House, everything that should be there is, and more. The beams, inglenook fireplace, stone flag floors and wood panel doors remind you that this cottage dates back to 1647, whilst the Egyptian cotton bed linen, timeless wood-burning stove and attention to detail such as Cumbrian-slate kitchen counter tops remind you that Stair Cottage has been refurbished to a high level of perfection.
Owners Note: The property is listed and has a narrow spiral staircase, there is also a river through the garden, which may make this property unsuitable for those with smaller children or who need easier access.
This property does books up quickly, so do check availability and also read the glowing reviews from previous guests here. |
